Coastland | DCCM has an immediate opening for an experienced Construction Manager to oversee Capital Improvement Program construction projects for our public agency clients. The full-time position will be filled in our Fairfield office and require travel to serve our clients throughout these regions.
The candidate will have a minimum of 5+ years of experience overseeing public construction projects and possess strong communication skills.
Knowledge of:
- Methods used in effectively leading, directing the work of, and training others

- Surveying principles and practices
- Materials sampling and testing methods and techniques
- Engineering design and construction practices
- Quantity and cost estimating
- Customer service techniques
- Principles of project planning and administration
- Principles of statistics and mathematics as applied to engineering construction tasks
- Construction methods, techniques, and materials used for public works projects
- Applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations, and construction standards pertaining to public works projects
- Public contracts and the Public Contracts Code and procedures
- Safety and labor code compliance and applicability
- Strong personnel, fiscal, organizational and time management skills
- Construction administration and management systems, procedures and techniques
Minimum Requirements:
- 5+ years of increasingly responsible construction related experience, including 1+ years as a construction manager/administrator and 1+ years as a construction inspector
- Experience providing oversight/coordination with project inspectors
- Able to work in a collaborative environment and maintain effective working relationships with staff, clients and government agencies
- Ability to make effective, fair, timely and independent decisions – especially in the field
- Possess good conflict resolution skills and strong organizational and time management skills
- Experience processing all construction-related paperwork as owner’s representative
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and to traverse difficult terrain
- Valid California driver’s license and a clean driving record
- A California professional engineer (PE) license is preferred but not required
- Certified Erosion, Sediment & Storm Water Inspector (CESSWI) and/or QSP/QSD desired
