Coastland recently provided construction management and inspection services for this important bridge project in San Rafael. The primary objective was to improve pedestrian safety on the Grand Ave. bridge over the San Rafael channel. The new steel bridge connects a high-volume pedestrian pathway in the center of San Rafael. With the completion of the bridge, pedestrian traffic is separated from vehicle traffic.
This project consisted of all associated work with the fabrication and placement of HID precast concrete piles, construction of concrete abutments, fabrication and installation of the new 136 foot span steel bridge, construction of ADA compliance at grade approaches to the bridge, modification of the existing vehicular bridge sidewalks; installation of methacrylate bridge deck treatment, concrete guardrail, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, striping, electrical fixtures, utility relocation for water line currently suspended for the existing vehicle bridge, traffic controls, hot mix asphalt, and retaining walls on Grand Avenue between Second St. and Francisco Blvd. East.
